He even Made a missionary a SAINT that tortured and condemned yo death Native Americans to death if they didnt convertbyo Catholicism way back in the 1700's...

Stalin was a monster not just because he murdered on an industrial scale but he would do it just to win an argument.
He had no sense of the value of human life. He was the ultimate crude utilitarian and was even admired by many in his time for his political effectiveness.
But taking people out of religion is not enough - education, sound social policy, the rule of law and working institutions are also vital as people will fall prey to manipulators using their fears and resentments. We see this process taking place all around us and this pope represents no more than a platitude, or perhaps a placebo.

Funny, Stalin, when he brought the Russian Orthodox Church back on board in the Second World War, ended up with a similar view to H+P on religion - it may be rubbish, but it's useful for manipulating people.
I regard the strand in atheism which says it's ok for the elite, but the masses must be given something to believe in as despicable.

Agreed Sir Alf, but while there are economically disadvantaged, socially uprooted, insecure or frightened people without the confidence or capacity to think for themselves, there will be a market for organised religion.
Sometimes it is the lesser evil, as those same disadvantaged, without religion turn to other ideologies that are even more harmful, like chovinistic nationalism, or communism.

Organised "club" for men which was a, refuge for gay men down the centuries. Like all churches/religions and organisations where the member are only men there is a high likelihood of deviancy ? Obvious what they were into.... other men. Young men in particular who would not be believed.
Organised religion has held back and continues to hold back the evolution of the human species. They were and still are essentially huge corporations which grew rich and grabbed land and used their power to oppress the masses and exploit them. Disband them. Until they are wiped out, children are at risk. As mentioned by others, paedos look to secure positions of influence and confidence where they can be close to children and then hide behind a fake pious cloak of virtue.
Pope? Another man in the dress who wears a crown and walks around like he is some kind of king. Humble platitudes which is not backed up by behaviour and life style.
Media is under enormous pressure to keep him in the news in a country where very few go to church. We have a culture with foundations firmly based on christianity but surely anyone with a brain can work out that 99% of what these organised religions do, say,write is unnecessary and now irrelevant. There are a few simple moral guidelines that could fit on a beermat , that if followed would make the world a better place. These organisations have just created fear, segregation, emphasised differences and created elites.

He's the cuddly lefty right-on figurehead designed to appeal to the only dynamic social base the church has - the Latin Americans, the Philippines and Africa.
Meanwhile the power base, the Vatican administration, the hierarchy and above all the money pursue their own agenda, and that is anything but cuddly and right-on. At least the deeply reactionary, nationalist clergy in Poland, who steer the right there, either ignore or hate this Pope.

A vow of celibacy makes sex with a partner a great sin, and masturbation is always sin in the Catholic world view.
A serious attempt to completely suppress sexuality must frequently twist it, surely.
Then the sexuality comes through anyway.
I guess that priests who are hypocritical about wanking are safer than those who are fanatical about not doing it.
